Selma Falck has just survived a horrendous sniper attack that claimed the life of one of her best friends. Unsure what motivated the attack at first Selma and and even the police she was the target. But then Selma investigates and finds she wasn’t the target at all, just a useful tool. The truth is a lot more sinister than she thought and danger is hot on her heels. Really enjoyed this, never read the author before but her characters were engaging, interesting and the overall plot was pretty deep and involved. This was a good Scandi thriller, dark brooding and a big dose of pure danger. Definitely one for the general thriller fans but also of course for fans of the current trend in Nordic / Scandi novels. Definitely going to look into more of this author's work as I had never read or heard of her before. A terrific read I just couldn't put down.

The cover of Memory for Murder would not have drawn me to the book, however once I started reading it I found it hard to stop and I can see why the Author is Number One Crime writer in Norway. The book is fast paced and although it is the third instalment, it is a separate story so you will pick it up very quickly. It all starts with three women meeting for lunch and one of them is killed but was she the target and if so why. This leads into lots of twists and turns and several stories all running alongside of the murder. Selma is the main character and she wants to find out if she was meant to be the target or why her best friend was killed. This means that she has to use all of her contacts and skills to discover a dark side of the Government department looking after Children and solve the connection. Meanwhile there are other murders are these connected or not. Really enjoyed this book and will look out for more books by this author.

Selma Falck meets up with friends with catastrophic consequences. One of her friends that day is taken out when a sniper attacks and fatally shoots her. Confused as to why this has happened both Selma and the police for a time assume that its Selma herself that was the intended target and her friend just got in the way. But then Selma starts to dig deep and what she uncovers reveals that this was all just part of a wider situation. Still her life is in terrible danger and it is quite close to home and coming closer every minute. This was fast paced, engaging from the first page and a really cracking read. Thoroughly enjoyed it and Notice that this is book 3 in the series so hope to catch up with the others too at some point. Scandi crime thriller at its finest. Definitely one to appeal to fans of authors such as Jo Nesbo and other great writers of the genre.

What an exceptional read. At first, I was not excited about this book. My first impression was that it was just... OK and was indecisive of whether I would want to read it as I lacked interest from my first impression. Nonetheless, I thought that it is a genre I enjoy reading and would therefore give it a chance and wow, how glad I am that I did. My opinion of this book completely changed as I got further and further into the story. There is a lot going on throughout the book and it may seem impossible to fit so much in, such as different aspects of malpractice and negligence and crime. Along with many different characters which are introduced throughout the book. But it works, I feel as a reader that I am not overwhelmed and am able to follow the plot well and understand each aspect and character. Anne Bruce is a fantastic author who has made a very engaging book that I would recommend to many.

This was an intelligent thriller with a worrying cause at the core of it, told from multiple points of view but primarily that of Selma Falck the main story starts the second she is shot, injuring her arm but killing her MP friend. It’s initially perceived that this was an attempt on Selma’s life but as the police investigation gradually unfolds it becomes apparent the intended target was the MP and that her death was part of a conspiracy when two other deaths become gradually linked in. Selma continues to be a determined but difficult character although her focus was deflected more in this by both her belief she has a stalker and her longing to see her grandson. The other characters were well written and it was interesting to see how the Police Inspector evolved both in appearance and attitude. The story at the core was horrifying and the belief of the perpetrator that he was raising the issue and righting the wrongs was chilling. I did identify the perpetrator well before the end however that did not detract from the thrill of the story.
