What a brilliant idea! The book is made up of compact one page entries on important linguistic dates for every day of the year. Whether you share a birthday with an author you have long admired or discover a new author or date you would like to follow, the book is bound to excite the linguistically and not so linguistically inclined. It's one of those lovely relaxing books you want to curl up with. Just as Crystal (see Preface) ended up following new lines and paths of linguistic and literary discoveries while writing the book, so will the reader easily find themselves checking out authors, events, genres hitherto unbeknownst to them. Most helpfully, the book ends with literary references and further reading laid out for each month. A wonderful book that would make an ideal gift for the inquisitive at heart.
