Thank you to Netgalley and Orbit for this ARC. I actually enjoyed this one much more than the first! There is always the worry of second book syndrome but, in my opinion, this book does not suffer from that affliction. There was a lot more going on in this one! The things I didn't like so much in the first book we're not an issue in this one - besides the glossary/pronunciation guide at the back again! I didn't have to suffer through a character I found irritating instead I got to enjoy quite a lot of page time of either Fia on her own or getting to know a few new characters like the aughisky and the gruagach who I loved! My favourite character is tied between Pond Scum and Wayland - the names will make sense after you read I promise! I am also a big fan of books in a series ending in complete chaos and this absolutely ticked that box. If you were undecided regarding continuing the series, I'd say give it a try to see if it's right for you because I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it but, was happily proven wrong.

4.25/5 stars I did enjoy this second installment in the Fair Folk romance/fantasy/adventure series which felt more like a YA book to me (although it's not billed as one). But while I did end up enjoying it, I found it slow going in the beginning. To give it its due, it had been a while since I had read the previous book (A Feather So Black), so that may have had something to do with it. I felt like I had to slow down and re-introduce myself to both the characters and the world-building/former action. However, once it picked up, and I became more comfortable with it, it took off and kept me riveted and entertained. I really liked the change in location in this one, the addition of some interesting and colorful characters, and the plot twists and turns. It's very romantic with a hero who's not afraid to be vulnerable with his heroine. And while, I did get a bit frustrated with said heroine at times (she could be very stubborn and unforgiving), overall, I loved them as a couple. As there was quite a cliffhanger, I'm looking forward to continuing the adventure in the next installment. In so many ways i preferred this book to the 1st one. I loved the progression of Fia's character, and even when she is chained her spirit and magic doesnt diminish which is a great lesson for young women everywhere. This picks up right after the events of the 1st book and Fia and Irian continue their fight of Fia's sister Eala and her quest for total dominion over both worlds. Their adventure takes them to the Silver Isle and a competition of Kings where we meet Wayland who damn it i prefer to Irian in every way. I was actually rooting for them to get together all the way through the book. He is a much better match for Fia and i dont get the obession with Irian at all, he is controlling and obnoxious, Wayland on the other hand is sweet, caring, vulnerable, and hot as hell. I was actually rooting for a throuple all the way through, i thought it would happen at one point when Weyland casually commented that Irian would be more than ok with sharing Fia with Wayland, internally i was like yes Fia go for it! I enjoyed the story, the quests and the side characters and i found it really engaging and fun. That being said, i am half Irish, Lyra can you please, and im begging you, to stop Irian constantly using the term colleen when he talks to Fia. It is not a term of endearment no matter what the internet says, its actually very patonising, and i cringe every time i read it. In Irish colleen means girl/woman, so when Irian is saying what do you need from me colleen, he is saying what do you want from me girl/woman. I find it infuriating, and if i were the editor i would go in and replace it with her actual name Fia. I hate terms of endearment though in general so this is a personal thing, i dont like love, honey, darling etc, just use my name please. Anyway, overall i think this is better than the 1st one, it was certainly more interesting to read, and i am looking forward to reading the next one.
