Beginning in Shanghai in August 1937, the story tells of Reed, a mechanic who reluctantly becomes involved with a group of refugees sailing in a rotting junk up the Yangtze to Nanking. "Yangtze" is Alan Fisher's fifth published novel. His fourth, "The Terioki Crossing", won the Georgette Heyer Prize for an outstanding historical novel.
