Working Smart

With the growing popularity of work-based learning programs, Working Smart offers real world applications and project-based learning with opportunities for building teamwork skills. Content covers current technologies including Internet, and SCANS competencies.

This product is a learning tool that provides valuable help for students who want to build or augment workplace skills and competencies. The product is designed to help students develop competencies in four basic areas:

1. Preparation for the first days on the job, expectations, and good work habits are dealt with. (SCANS: critical thinking, knowing how to learn, sociability, and self-discipline.)

2. Effective communication on the job -- developing and applying good communications on the job. (SCANS: following and giving instructions, using traditional and newer technologies, and good communications in customer relations.)

3. Human relations topics for getting along with others in the workplace. (SCANS: interacting effectively with coworkers and supervisors.)

4. Decision-making skills are enhanced through topics such as evaluating performance, setting goals, dealing with setbacks, and preparing for advancement. (SCANS: reading, writing, speaking, listening, decision-making, and self-management.)
