Where are We Going?
Synopsis
This economic treatise takes as its starting point the "landmark change" of May 1st, 1997, when Labour came into power with an unprecedented election landslide. It assesses that government's stated political intentions against the background of the global economic climate, and of social and political change within the UK. Central to the author's argument is Britain's unresolved position within Europe. He questions how far the government can remedy that situation, and how far Europe on a more united basis can intervene more effectively in world events that are so important to its own fortunes.
