Up Every Tree

When Bertie Ahern decided to appoint Ray Burke to his cabinet, being a cautious and wise Taoiseach, he checked up every tree in North Dublin to see if there was any reason he shouldn't do so. If he had checked with the dogs in the street or the accounts in the banks he might have got a clearer picture. "Up Every Tree" is Martyn Turner's tribute to the (almost) ten years of stewardship by the man Charles Haughey described as the "most devious, the most cunning of them all" - a description our Taoiseach has done everything in his power to prove wrong. And as the decade of the Bertie bumbled along in Ireland, the world of Bush and Blair, Saddam and Osama untangled abroad.
