Touchstones: Classic Texts in the Humanities

A versatile, chronological anthology of the major works and historically significant texts in Western Civilization from antiquity to the present. Includes many complete works and large sections of works to enhance students' understanding of themes and meaning. Uses an "expanded literary canon" of works to include the writings of women and other underrepresented authors. Each reading selection is prefaced by a biographical and critical description of the work, author, and its major theme. Where necessary, explanatory footnotes and interpolated narrative summaries are included with the readings as aids to comprehension.
