Synopsis
London: William Heinemann Ltd, 1934. First Edition. Publisher’s green cloth with lettering in gilt. Dust staining to top edge and one small spot to fore edge, else fine. Dust jacket is a later state, priced 3/6 at spine rather than front flap. Spine is toned with bottom heel slightly crushed and light rubbing to hinges. An unusually crisp example of this sci-fi story about a mild-mannered suburban schoolteacher who holds London hostage with a destructive magnetic device in an attempt to force global disarmament. A rare foray into Wellsian territory from the typically stolid Hornblower writer and very scarce in its dust jacket.
