The Garden: A year at Home Farm

In 1987 designer Dan Pearson was commissioned to create a 4 acre garden at Home Farm. The result is an extraordinary series of gardens that are both naturalistic and pioneering in their planting. Ranging from a Woodland Garden to a Thyme Lawn and Vegetable Garden, each area of Home Farm demonstrates an aspect of gardening familiar to many of us. Dan Pearson charts a year in the life of this magical place, immersing the reader month-by-month in the process of working within a dynamic, ever changing medium. He details his gardening philosophy and explores the seasons both practically - covering pruning, sowing, maintenance etc - and aesthetically, looking at the importance of colour, perfume, light balance and many other elements within the garden. Home Farm accompanies a major 6-part series to be broadcast on BBC2 in February 2001.
