Synopsis
This updated guide details the best walks,
scrambles and low-grade rock climbs on the island of Skye, including over 30
new routes and insight into the local wildlife, history and geology. While the
focus is on the magnificent gabbro mountains of the Cuillin for which the
island is renowned, many other fine outings are described in the neighbouring
Red Hills and the dramatic, less-frequented landscapes to the west and north.
There is something for every taste, ranging from short, accessible outings to
more committing adventures, including classics such as the Trotternish Ridge
and Main Ridge Traverse.
The SMC produces a wide range of
guidebooks, including a number of hillwalkers' guides, the best and most
popular guides to the Munros, Corbetts, Grahams and Donalds, together with a
series of area guides covering all of Scotland. In addition, it produces
scramblers' guides and the definitive series of climbers' guides covering
summer and winter climbing in Scotland.
SMC guidebooks are published by
the Scottish Mountaineering Press, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Scottish
Mountaineering Trust, the charity to whom we channel all of our profits. At the
Press, we promote and share Scotland's natural wonders by embracing the
creativity and art borne of an explorer spirit and celebrating the endeavour
and joy in a life lived outdoors.
