Professional Pursuits: Women and the American Arts and Crafts Movement

The American Arts and Crafts movement, which began in the late 19th century, promoted hand craftsmanship over mass production. In the context of an era that offered women few professional opportunities, Zipf (cultural and historic preservation, Salve Regina U., Newport, Rhode Island) profiles five women who parlayed their involvement in this movement into successful careers.
