Problem-Based Learning for Teachers, Grades 6-12
Synopsis
This text exposes future middle school and high school teachers to the Problem-Based Learning Model by walking them through authentic problem situations from inception through inquiry and reflection.
This text's approach provides the authentic elements of a problem situation and moves the students into inquiry. It is a text of questions and inquiry processes, not a text of answers. Asked to think like teachers, students are given real-life situations and documents that require problem solving. For example, to decide whether or not to adopt an anti-bullying policy, students read accounts of teachers, caregivers (a grandparent, in this case,) and official school records. Students study the issues linked to the problem to prepare formal presentations of solutions in appropriately authentic contexts.
