Open Distributed Processing: Experiences with distributed environments

Advances in computer networking have allowed computer systems across the world to interconnect. Despite this, the heterogeneity in interaction models prevents interworking between systems. Open distributed processing is an emerging technology which attempts to solve the software interaction problem by proposing a common framework for distributed systems. Open distributed processing systems are those that support hererogenous distributed processing both within and between autonomous organizations. This book contains the selected proceedings of the Third International Conference on Open Distributed Systems, organized by the International Federation for Information Processing and held in Brisbane, Australia, in February 1995. The book presents a general summary of research into open distributed processing, explores experiences with emerging distributed environments and examines the quality of service techniques for distributed systems. Topics such as architecture, management, trading, interworking traders and realizing systems are also covered.
