One Man Alone: Hemingway and "To Have and Have Not"

This work is a scholarly monograph on Ernest Hemingway's 1937 novel, "To Have and Have Not". Drawn from the experiences of Hemingway and his acquaintances in Key West in the 1930s, the novel has been considered infoerior by many critics. Critics also banned it for its lack of social concern, attacks on intellectuals and weak internal structure. The authors of this volume attempt to show that a re-reading of the work points to great textual surprises and truths about Hemingway and the plan of the work.
