Mayombe: Ritual Statues from Congo

Displayed here for the first time is the extraordinary art and material culture from Mayombe, a region north of the Congo river. The ritual statues included in the book are real, 'used' objects, giving them a unique historical value. The book is rich in iconography, featuring unique pieces from the collection of the Royal Museum for Middle-Africa in Tervuren, Belgium and the Belgian universities of Liege and Louvain. Published to coincide with the exhibition 'Mayombe. Masters of Magic' held in the M Museum from late 2010 until January 23 2011.
