Learning to Lend: Informal Credit and Savings Schemes in Bangladesh

The Save the Children River project in northern Bangladesh has been transformed from a flood relief and community health programme to a group-based savings and credit scheme. This paper provides an analytical insight into the evolution of the River Project within the context of informal credit in rural Bangladesh. Current debates concerning credit scheme management, loan use and savings are outlined in the final chapters.
