Learning from Experience: World Studies in the Primary Curriculum
Synopsis
In our shrinking world the case for world studies throughout the curriculum is self-evident. Yet many teachers feel that their curriculum is so heavily loaded that there is no space left for it. This book aims to provide the solution. It shows how the teachers of foundation subjects in the National Curriculum can be helped and enhanced through a world studies perspective. The book is packed with tried and tested activities, that are accompanied by well worked out strategies for assessment and evaluation. There is also a rationale for teaching world studies that teachers will find useful in their discussions with colleagues and parents. The book follows "World Studies 8-13" and its sequel and includes issues such as environment, conflict resolution, peace studies, citizenship and equal opportunities. It offers practical guidance linked to National Curriculum subjects especially geography, science, maths, history and English and actual classroom programmes. Teacher's comments and pupil's woork are included. Miriam Steiner was co-author of "Global Issues".
