The aim of this book is to provide equestrians with practical advice on owning and riding a horse. It covers many aspects of horse care and practical information, from choosing a first pony to competing in the first horse show or gymkhana. Lucy Rees provides information on the physiology and psychology of the horse and on the fundamentals of care, such as feeding, grooming, stabling, keeping at grass, handling, leading and the care and choice of tack. She also deals with basic riding and jumping skills, road safety, travelling and preparation for competitions, the cause and cure of common behavioural problems, and the treatment of simple ailments, from colic to colds.
