John Betjeman

John Betjeman (1906-1984) was Poet Laureate from 1972. In this 1974 study, John Press attempts to survey the full range of Betjeman's work over forty years. Press argues that Betjeman's prose writings present, with more force and coherence than is commonly recognized, a set of aesthetics and moral judgements all the more valid for being flexible and undoctrinaire.
