Global Studies Encyclopedia

The "Global Studies Encyclopedia" introduces the new interdisciplinary field of global studies, which addresses the universally significant and potentially dangerous consequences of globalisation. While extensive research in global studies has been conducted in many countries, until now this individual work has not been co-ordinated globally. This volume fills this need.Prominent scholars, politicians, and public figures from over thirty countries have prepared hundreds of concise yet highly informative articles for this dictionary. These articles treat such important topics as the biosphere, ozone depletion, land resources and pollution, world health challenges, education, science and technology, global modelling, sustainable development, war, weapons of mass destruction, terrorism, and many other issues. This interdisciplinary collection provides a basis for understanding the concepts and methods within global studies and for accessing lengthier and more technical research in the field.
By co-ordinating this unprecedented team effort, the editors are promoting academic co-operation, political dialogue, and mutual understanding among nations having different values, traditions, and beliefs.
