Environmental Software Systems: IFIP TC5 WG5.11 International Symposium on Environmental Software Systems (ISESS ’97), 28 April–2 May 1997, British Columbia, Canada
Synopsis
Environmental informatics is an expanding subject which incorporates many areas including computer science, environmental planning, ecology and other related subjects. Being an interdisciplinary subject, environmental informatics provides an interface for professional groups. Relatively new in the mid-to-late 1990s, but also dynamic, this topic could be the future foundation for the computer-assisted protection of the environment. Issues covered in the text include: environmental information systems and decision support; environmental data analysis and visualization; computer-based life cycle assessment and "eco-auditing"; and ecological and agricultural modelling. The text should be of interest to students and lecturers of computer science, engineering, agriculture, ecology and business, ecologists and planners in government institutions, industrial managers and engineers, and libraries.
