Drama and Performance: An Anthology
Synopsis
This is an anthology of 37 plays, ranging from the ancient Greeks to contemporary theatre, providing a selection which aims to strike a balance between familiar favourites and plays that seldom appear in anthologies. Each play is accompanied by an introduction that sets the play in its social and historical context, provides background information about the author, analyzes its structure and language and discusses its performance history. Each play is also preceded by an interview with an artist closely associated with the performance of the work, a critic's review of the play, or an excerpt from a book about the play. The emphasis is on the play as a performance art form.
