Synopsis

Diffuse pollution can arise from a wide range of human activities, including agriculture, aquaculture, urbanization, transportation, recreation, and surface mining. Each activity has its own specific character and need tailor-made measures and interventions to reduce the diffuse pollution it causes. The aim of the 6th Diffuse Pollution conference was to discuss not only the particular sources, models and interventions, but also to consider coherent strategies for dealing with diffuse pollution. Following peer review a total of 26 articles have been selected from the extensive program (which had over 70 platform presentations and a large number of posters). The topics considered include: nutrient sources and impacts; nutrient measures and interventions on the catchment or regional scale; national nutrient policies; pesticides; urban water management; and strategies for diffuse pollution abatement.
