Synopsis

The repertory of architectural shapes has grown considerably over the last years. The offices of Zaha Hadid, Frank O. Gehry or Sir Norman Foster and the younger scene with its progressive designers are increasingly using geometrically complex shapes for architectural designs. Rhinoceros(R) is one of the programs used for 3D modeling. It was originally conceived for the design of ships, jewelry and consumer goods, but its strengths are also evident in an architectural context. Rhinoceros(R) is precise, flexible and cost-efficient. It offers a range of interfaces, makes it possible to steer complex processes and accompanies the user from the design, to its rendering, to its final execution. Daniel Lordick is an architect himself; he shows the reader the different Rhinoceros(R) 3D modeling techniques, step by step. Small design tasks serve as detailed guides through the program functions. The reader learns how to handle open areas and shape styling and the completion of models with Rapid Prototyping or laser cutting.
