Computational Modelling and Electrical Engineering in Acoustics

The application of computer modelling using numerical techniques is a fast developing field in acoustics. Many practical acoustic problems, such as room acoustics, environmental noise propagation and transducer design, cannot be solved by closed form analytical solutions and in the past have been handled using simplified approximations which are very limited in the scope of application and detail and accuracy which they can provide. Numerical techniques in acoustics have undergone tremendous development over the past two decades, spurred on by the need for more accurate and detailed modelling and made practical by the rapid increase in affordable desktop computing power. The major numerical techniques which can be applied to acoustic transducer design, room acoustics prediction, environmental noise modelling, and other general modelling of noise radiation and diffraction are brought together. The basic principles are covered, but the book emphasises the application of the techniques and is illustrated with cases.
