The cat has been with us since time began - think back, for example, to ancient Egypt. Enigmatic, independent, surprising, single-minded, loving - cats are all these things and impose themselves on our lives. The haiku is an ancient and honourable Japanese verse form - three lines, 17 syllables, encapsulating a vision of the essence of the thing, scene or person being written about.
