Synopsis

Bus Éireann was formed in 1987 following State Transport Operator CIE being split into three separate operational companies. The company operates city services in Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford and town services in Carlow, Athlone, Navan, Dundalk, Drogheda and Sligo. It operates an express network branded as Expressway and operates Public Service Obligation (PSO) routes nationwide as well as commuter services and the State School Transport Scheme on behalf of the Department of Education and Science using their own and Private Operators Vehicles. Over the last forty years elements of their services have developed rapidly with the expansion of the Irish economy. From Cork in the South to Donegal in the north-west, Bus Éireann is the principal operator of services in the Republic of Ireland.

With a wealth of fascinating images, Darren Hall details the story of this much-loved national bus company in its fortieth year of operation.
