This is the extraordinary odyssey of one of the most celebrated female artists in history, recently made into an award-winning film. Daughter of Orazio Gentileschi, a disciple of Caravaggio, Artemisia is determined to become a painter of the nude human form. Painting and studying anatomy clandestinely, Artemisia also discovers the pleasures of the flesh when she encounters Agostino Tassi, a colleague of Orazio. Crushed by scandal, Orazio offers his daughter as a sacrifice to the court and institutes proceedings against Agostino for rape.
