Synopsis
London: William Heinemann, 1930. New Impression. Publisher’s two-toned paper cloth with deco design and paper labels. Heavily rubbed to edges with chip to top of spine and foxing to page edges but internally sound. Fragile dust jacket by Jean-Emile Laboureur is toned and stained with small loss to top of spine with chips at extremities and rubbing to hinges. Good. A notable cocktail book for its inclusion of drinks popular in London’s high end establishments in the 1920s with its first issue of 1925 preceding The Savoy Cocktail Book. The introduction by the first celebrity restauranteur Marcel Boulestin may serve to explain something of its unusual mixing proportions based on place sittings. It is perhaps one of the earliest cocktail books to put its emphasis on diners rather than drinkers. More common in this second printing but incredibly scarce in its dust jacket, even thus.
