World Book Day at Hatchards

Date: Thursday 7 March 2019
Location: Hatchards Piccadilly

For this year’s World Book Day, at midday, two of our wonderful children’s booksellers, Aimee & Salla, will each be reading from one of their favourite children’s books.

Aimee will be reading a short passage from THE SECRET GARDEN, by Frances Hodgson Burnett. When Mary Lennox is sent to Misselthwaite Manor to live with her uncle everybody says she is the most disagreeable-looking child ever seen. It is true, too. Mary is pale, spoilt and quite contrary. But she is also horribly lonely. Then one day she hears about a garden in the grounds of the Manor that has been kept locked and hidden for years. And when a friendly robin helps Mary find the key, she discovers the most magical place anyone could imagine.

Salla will be reading  from NIBBLES THE BOOK MONSTER, by Emma Yarlett. Nibbles the Book Monster is on the loose, and he’s chomping through all of your favourite fairy tales! Will anything or anyone be able to stop him? This laugh-out-loud funny and ferocious charmer’s unstoppable appetite for the printed page will nibble a hole right through your heart.

Throughout World Book Day, we will also be handing out sweets and treats on the children’s and cookery floor (Second) for those who spend their vouchers with us, and a bonus for fancy dress!
