Spada
Synopsis
Ercole Spada is an Italian car designer. He is perhaps most notable for designs made during the 1960s for the Zagato design studio - he designed sports cars for Aston Martin, Ferrari, Maserati, and Fiat among many others. He is the creator of the famous "Codatronca" tail (Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ etc.), he designed the BMW 5-series (E34) and the 7-series (E32). When Spada started his career he was absolutely unknown to car enthusiasts or to the industry as a whole. Nevertheless, the young designer was instantly tasked with conceptualising cars for famous companies like Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo, and Lancia. Ever since then, companies with a 'sporty' identity have relied upon his creations, the main reason for this being that he knows how to combine aerodynamics, functional efficiency and aesthetics in one complete package. This book tells his remarkable story.
